Memorial Day-The Perfect Message to Share

Colored by our son in Kindergarten
I am not always sure how to speak with our little boys about all that our servicemen and women have done for us and all that they continue to do so that we can live in a free country.

It's never an easy conversation. Kids have a lot of questions. And when I tell them that their great - grandparents, their Papa, Granddad, and mommy's cousins served our country, there are many questions - questions that I'm willing to answer, but it's not always easy for them to understand just why they served and why the service to our country continues. And it's definitely not easy to explain why the fighting continues.

While young, the boys knew that today was a day of remembrance - a day set aside to remember those who have served our country and to honor those who continue to serve, but I couldn't quite think of the greater message and the simple message that needed to be shared with them...until I received an email message from the Palm Beach Fellowship of Christians and Jews today.

The message shared by this great organization will be printed and posted on our refrigerator. And it is one that should be shared with not only our children, but with EVERYONE:

"Let us remember and honor the sacrifice of our veterans, active duty servicemen and women, and their families by treating everyone with respect, compassion, and kindness today, and every day."

Thank you to the Fellowship for sharing this message. It is one that I will continue to pass on to many. And thank you to our servicemen and women and to all of their families, who have also made sacrifices, so that their loved ones could serve our country and fight for the great gift of freedom we are blessed with every day of our lives.
